Professional Learning Networks

Professional Learning Networks

I hate to admit this but, I was hesitant at first to complete this assignment. I was nervous to have a Twitter and to create more of a digital presence for myself. However, this assignment was very beneficial! I was able to connect with educators from across the world to learn from them. Below are just some reasons why all teachers need to be apart of a Professional Learning Network. I would definitely recommend all educators check one out because they can provide some great resources.

Twitter Chat:
was also able to engage with other educators in meaningful discussions through the use of Twitter chats. The chat that I participated in was #edchat. On the day I took part in the chat, the question focused around planning and preparation in the classroom. They wanted to hear our opinions on if we had enough time to plan for our students and how our administration supported us with planning time. However, it did take a turn in to lack of administration support and a need for substitutes in our buildings. I would definitely participate in another chat in the future. I felt like my voice and opinions were heard and respected.

Resource:
I found a really cool plotting points activity that connects to student's lives. It is called The Graph of Me. This activity was shared by Teacher2Teacher, but was created by @aladams7mIn 8th grade math, we are just getting ready to begin our graphing unit. So, when I came across this activity, I immediately thought that this would fit in perfectly for when we began reviewing how to plot points. It is engaging and it doesn't seem like math for our students because they are connecting it to their own lives. I shared this resource with my team and they all thought it was fantastic. We are planning on using a modified version for our students. I can't wait to see all of my students graphs!

  1. The resource you found looks like a great one that will also give you a bit of insight into your students! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed your time with Twitter. Hopefully you'll continue to build your PLN with this platform.
